The Palais Masséna

The Palais Masséna, located on the Promenade des Anglais and adjoining the West End Hotel, is in fact a villa dating from the 19th century, completely refurbished in 2008.
It offers its visitors a chronological and thematic approach to the history of Nice from 1792 to 1939, as well as a large library on the history of the County of Nice, Provence, Savoy and Northern Italy.
Our Concierge’s advice: visit the gardens around the museum and come back at night, the architecture of this magnificent building is perfectly highlighted.

The Matisse Museum

In the heart of the Arènes de Cimiez park stands proudly the Matisse Museum, inaugurated in 1963.
Linked to the artist’s attachment to the city of Nice, where he produced most of his work, the museum offers an exceptional and unique collection of Henri Matisse’s work. Works and objects testifying to the artist’s career have been donated by himself and his heirs.

The MAMAC

The MAMAC (Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art) opened on the 21st June 1990 is located in the heart of the city, near Place Garibaldi and the Promenade du Paillon. It is linked by the Promenade des Arts to the Théâtre National de Nice, also called TNN.
More than 1350 works by 350 artists make up the collection presented in the MAMAC. Two major figures of the 20th century are particularly honoured: Yves Klein and Niki de Saint Phalle.
Our Concierge’s advice: Don’t hesitate to go up to the roof, the view is spectacular.

The Fine Arts Jules Chéret Museum

It is in fact an old villa whose construction began in 1878.
In 1925, the city of Nice acquired it and transformed it into the Fine Arts Museum , also called the Palais des Arts Jules Cheret. The museum presents French paintings from the 19th and 20th, with works by Boudin, Monet, Guillaumin and Raoul Dufy.
Our Concierge’s advice: plan to travel there as the museum is far from the city centre.

The Lérins Islands

@nicofronzo

A legendary archipelago facing the Bay of Cannes, the islands of Lérins, Sainte-Marguerite and Saint-Honorat, are two unique jewels combining natural and cultural heritage.
Sainte-Marguerite Island offers visitors 152 hectares of state-owned pine and eucalyptus forest. The Fort Royal, the building that overlooks the island, is now a museum of the sea, but when the fort was used as a prison, the Fort Royal housed the legendary Man in the Iron Mask.
The smaller island, Saint-Honorat, is also the wildest. It is home to the abbey of Saint-Honorat, founded in the 5th century. Open to visitors, the island’s monks remain the only occupants. They produce wine, liqueur and honey.
This winter, the city of Cannes inaugurated near the southern shore of Sainte-Marguerite Island the first underwater eco-museum in France.
6 submerged statues, the work of British artist Jason deCaires, are accessible only with a mask and snorkel. Ecological works offering a refuge to fish and shellfish and they also promote marine biodiversity.

The park and the Castle’s hill

Originally the cradle of the city, the castle was completely destroyed under the reign of Louis XIV
Now known as park and garden, this place has become a cult for locals and turists. Overlooking the ocher roofs of the Old Nice, the park and the Castle’s hill offer a breathtaking view of the Baie des Anges, the Port and the mountains.
In addition to its panoramic views, it is visited for its lush vegetation, archaeological remains, a waterfall, the Bellanda Tower and playgrounds. For the brave ones, you can access the Castle hill via a 500-step staircase. You can also use the dedicated lift or Nice’s little tourist train.
Our Concierge’s tip: wonder on top of the hill at sunset, the colour palette of the city and the mountains is majestic

Castle's hill

@franck_entre_mer_et_montagne

The Promenade du Paillon

The Promenade du Paillon is a urban park inaugurated in October 2013. It is THE green lung in the heart of the city.
Espanding through 12 hectares of green spaces stretching from the National Theatre of Nice to the Promenade des Anglais, you can take a botanical journey through the different continents. Asia, Africa, Australia, the Americas….dream and escapism accompany the wanderers.
We also like it for its children’s playground, a large water mirror, a “plateau des brumes” and a carnation conservatory.

@Julien.Veran

The Port Lympia

The Port Lympia is the second French port for cruiseships. Built in the 18th century at the foot of the ancient citadel, the port of Nice is one of the oldest on the French Riviera.
It is home to many yachts and pleasure boats, as well as the famous “pointus”, the brightly coloured ships that shine under the Côte d’Azur’s sun.
At a stone’s throw from the turistical centre of Nice, of the Old Town, and of the beaches, the Port is an unmissable spot, full of life.
Our Concierge’s tip : not to be missed is the Lou Festin du Pouort which takes place every year mid-September. The port’s celebrations are very popular and rally concerts, animations, and the gastronomical Chef’s Village. Get back in touch with tradition and cross the port of Nice for free with the “Lou Passagin”, a traditional pointu!

Castle's hill

@Ben.Lamotte

Nice’s Old Town

The Vieux Nice is, as its name states, the oldest part of the city. With its shadowy alleys, its colorful fronts with louvered shutters the Old Nice is a typically Mediterranean view.
We stroll through the small alleys with typical and atypical shops. For the food lovers, treat yourself to a part of the famous Socca, or take a seat to one of the restaurant labeled “Cuisine Nissarde” (Nice-style cuisine). Those with a sweet tooth will love the 90 flavours of ice-cream from the famous ice-cream maker Fenocchio.
On the very famous Cours Saleya, you can discover the antique market on Mondays and the flower market (and local products) every other day of the week.
