Until November 30, 2020, the Masséna museum in Nice is presenting the exhibition “Nice and the Second Empire. The journey of Napoleon III and Eugenie in 1860 ”.

In the prestigious Empire setting of the Villa Masséna salons, visitors are invited to rediscover the splendor of the 1860 imperial visit to Nice. Here, archival documents, engravings and photographs come to life between crinolines and dolmans, porcelain and silverware, floral wallpapers and exotic plants.

From the reading room come musical tunes, from the winter garden emanate intoxicating scents. From this beautiful meeting between Nice, the flower city, and the Second French Empire, a new and delicious way of life will blossom, that of the resort.

The exhibition highlights the exceptional career of Jean Ferrero, instinctive photographer, atypical collector and shrewd art dealer who embodies, in his direct and jovial way, the memory of a glorious period of contemporary art in Nice. which still shapes the artistic identity of the city today.
