Portrait: Grégory Gleizolles, head waiter at the Hôtel West End

Every month, the Hôtel West End**** puts the spotlight on one of its staff by asking a few questions to help us better understand their job, their missions and what motivates them on a daily basis. Today, we’d like to introduce you to Gregory Gleizolles, head waiter at the Hôtel West End.
Can you introduce yourself?
I’m 44 years old and I’ve been in this profession for 27 years. During my career, I’ve worked for the Louvre Hotels group. I’ve been at the West End Hotel for five years now, and it’s a real pleasure to work in this establishment on the famous Promenade des Anglais.
My role is to supervise the service, organise schedules and manage recruitment. I’m also responsible for ensuring that each of our guests has an unforgettable culinary experience. I’m passionate about wine, a love that comes from my roots, having grown up in the Côtes du Rhône region.
What are you most passionate about in your job?
What I’m most passionate about in my job is above all the contact with customers, an area in which I feel particularly at ease. Every meeting is an exceptional opportunity to discover different profiles and unique stories. One of my most vivid memories is meeting Peter Shilton, the famous English football goalkeeper who played against Maradona. It was a fascinating experience that perfectly illustrates the richness and intensity of the exchanges that this profession can offer.
What advice would you give to a new colleague?
My advice to a new employee would always be to choose a job that they love and to invest themselves fully in it. Enjoying human contact is essential, as is an interest in foreign languages, which open the door to rewarding exchanges with customers from all over the world. You need to feel at ease in what you do and cultivate a positive attitude, full of good vibes. That’s the key to success and long-term fulfillment in this profession.
What is your favourite place at the Hôtel West End?
The Mezzanine, with its incredible view of the Promenade des Anglais, is my favourite place at the West End Hotel. Having a coffee here, even for just five minutes, is a real pleasure. In the morning, with the magnificent light that bathes the place, it’s absolutely magical!
What are your fondest memories of the hotel?
My best memories of the hotel include my first 15 August. That evening, I bet we’d have over 100 people in the restaurant. In the end, we served 107! A great success for the whole team!
What advice would you give customers to make the most of their stay?
I’d strongly advise guests to take advantage of the opera evenings, because it’s a truly unique experience. Even if you’re not necessarily an opera fan, the concept itself is fascinating and original. It’s a great opportunity to experience an exceptional and memorable moment during their stay.
