Portrait: Aedrick De Vera, Receptionist at Hôtel West End
Every month, Hôtel West End is delighted to shine a spotlight on one of its team members through a series of questions, giving readers the opportunity to learn more about their role and what inspires them in their work. Today, we are pleased to introduce Aedrick De Vera, Receptionist.
Could you introduce yourself?
My name is Aedrick De Vera. I am from Canada and have been working at Hôtel West End as a receptionist for the past two years. Before joining the hotel, I worked in the United Kingdom in the concierge industry. On a daily basis, I take care of guests’ arrivals and departures (check-in and check-out), room assignments, reservations, phone calls and direct bookings. I also handle emails and make sure to address any requests or complaints in order to provide our guests with the best possible experience.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
What I enjoy most is interacting with guests. I love communicating with people from all over the world and discovering their stories, cultures and expectations. Every day is different, and every encounter makes this profession particularly rewarding.
What advice would you give to a new team member?
Above all, I would advise them to be patient. During the high season, the pace can be very fast, and you sometimes have to deal with complex situations or demanding guests. It is important to remain calm, listen carefully and always maintain a professional attitude.
What is your favourite spot at Hôtel West End?
I particularly enjoy the hotel’s forecourt. It is a place where I can take a few moments to enjoy the sunshine as well as the beautiful sea view.
What are your best memories at the hotel?
One of my best memories is when I first arrived at West End and met Tomoko, one of the hotel’s receptionists. She immediately made me feel very welcome and helped me settle into the team.
What advice would you give guests to make the most of their stay?
I would encourage them to make the most of everything Nice has to offer: its beaches, heritage, culture and traditions. Strolling through the city’s streets, discovering its Mediterranean atmosphere and enjoying the local cuisine are all must-do experiences. I would also recommend having lunch or dinner at Le Siècle restaurant, located within Hôtel West End.
